KIQO’s announcement that it will no longer broadcast Greyhound football games caught us all off guard, but Paso Robles radio station KPRL (1230 AM) has announced that it will take over. Games on September 2 (at Salinas), September 10 (home vs. Clovis) and November 12 (home vs. Paso Robles) will be broadcast live. All other games will be streamed live over the Internet at KPRL.com.
Jerry Tanimoto and Rodger Bland return to call the action.
We appreciate KPRL’s participation in Greyhound athletics!
All Atascadero High School graduates are invited to tonight’s Class of 1990 mixer at Hoover’s, 6900 El Camino Real.
The event is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Greyhound senior-to-be Troy Norris was the subject of the Tribune’s high school sports blog today. Donovan Aird reported the following:
Atascadero basketball standout Troy Norris has spent the past week in Las Vegas playing at the adidas Super 64 AAU tournament for Organized Chaos, a 17-and-under San Joaquin Valley-based club. On Sunday, NBEBasketball.com called Norris a “tough guard” to cover for an opposing club and “quick on the dribble.” Earlier this summer, following the San Jose-area Rumble in the Bay, HoopReview.net listed Norris as one of the top college prospects at the event. The publication evaluated Norris as a “real athletic (point guard) with speed to burn” who “handles it, excels in transition, sees the floor well” and is a “good driver” with “high energy.” According to the article, Norris had a “coming-out party” at the event and “is now on the Division I radar.”
As a junior, the 5-foot-10 Norris was an all-CIF Southern Section Division 4AA first-team honoree. He was also named The Tribune’s county player of the year after posting 16.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game while lifting the Greyhounds to the divisional quarterfinals.

2002 graduate Chelsea Johnson will compete in the pole vault Sunday at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Johnson, who set a women’s NCAA record at UCLA, tied for second at last year’s world championships.
Congratulations to Greyhounds junior pitcher Jill Johnson. The Tribune has named her San Luis Obispo County Softball Player of the Year. She won 16 games and posted a 1.01 ERA on a team that went 23-6 and was the best-hitting pitcher in the Pac 7 with a .349 average and 11 RBIs.
